A Guide to Achieve the Coastal Style

With the warm weather approaching, it is making me think of the beach! If you have ever dreamt of living by the sea, why not bring a little bit of that coastal charm into your home with a coastal interior design style? This popular design trend takes inspiration from the beach and ocean, creating a light, airy, and relaxing space that feels like a constant vacation. To achieve the coastal interior design style, follow these tips.

The coastal design style consists of a light and bright color palette like white, beige, and shades of blue. These colors create a sense of calm and tranquility reminiscent of the beach and ocean.

Another way to keep the space feeling light is to choose light and breezy fabrics. Opt for lightweight fabrics like linen and cotton for your curtains, upholstery, and throw pillows.

The coastal style also incorporates natural materials to achieve the “beachy look.” Look for pieces that have rattan, wicker, and weathered wood to bring in a touch of the outdoors. Since the color palette is mostly neutral with touches of blue to create more interest and depth in the design, embrace texture. Add texture to your space with items like rattan baskets, jute rugs, and woven throw blankets.

To achieve the soft feel of the coastal style, the furniture silhouettes typically have rounded edges, such as on the sides of couches and armchairs. For example, YellowGate Designs put together a furniture board with pieces that emulate the coastal style. You can shop this board’s pieces here!

Another way to emulate the coastal design style is to incorporate sea-inspired decor with repurposed accents like shells, driftwood, and coral to create a coastal vibe. You can also bring in beach-inspired accents. Decorate your space with beach-inspired accents like nautical stripes and artwork featuring beaches or sailboats. These accents will help tie the coastal theme together and create a cohesive look.

Another example of the coastal style is from one of our most recent stages in Chelan! Our lead stager, Kristin Stilwater, created a beautiful coastal oasis at this gorgeous beach house
