How To Select The Perfect Piece Of Art

Nothing can cheapen a look of a room quicker than art that isn't to scale with the rest of the room! Luckily we are here to help you choose the perfect size art to elevate your space.

This week we will look at the rules for the scale of art in the bedroom. The most common place for art in the bedroom is above the bed. The general rule of thumb for art above the bed is for its width to be 60% to 80% of the width of the bed. The most important measurement you need is the width of your bed. If you don't know the measurement of your bed, fulls are 54" wide, queens are 60" wide, and kings are 76".

Now that you have the measurement of your bed find pieces of art or groups of art with an overall width of 60% to 80% of the bed. For example, if you have a king bed (76"), then your piece of art should be 45" to 60" wide. If you want to do a grouping of art, purchase three pieces that are 18" wide and 3" spaced apart.

A mistake many people make when hanging art is hanging it too high. In the case of art over a bed hang the piece 8" to 10" above the headboard for the perfect height.

If you take a stab at hanging art in your bedroom based on our guide, we want to see your beautiful space! DM us a photo on Instagram or Facebook and we will post it! Or post your photo and tag YellowGate Designs! Good Luck!
